Pancake Love

When I was about 7 my sister's and I were at a homeschool group. There was a man teaching a writing class and he was asking the children interactive questions. When it came to me, he asked what my favorite food was. Without hesitation I said pancakes. I'll never forget, he literally laughed out loud. He didn't know that whenever I was taken out to eat I ordered pancakes. He didn't know that my parents had graduated from ordering me a short stack to a large stack. That waitresses would regularly try and convince my parents that the large stack was too much for a little girl like me. Once when the waitress came back to clear the table she insisted someone must have "helped" by eating some of my beloved breakfast for me. In her mind there was no way a skinny kid like me ate all that. Muhahaha. Well, nearly 20 years later and little has changed. Diner pancakes will forever be my favorite but my own recipe is high ranking.

                                                     <--- Hannah's Old Fashioned Pancakes--->

1 1/2 cups flour
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2  teaspoon salt
3 teaspoons sugar
           ♥
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 tablespoons melted butter
1 1/4 cup milk  -- I usually let the milk sit for a few minutes to warm up a bit.

Add vanilla and butter to eggs. Stir in milk. Let sit.
Sift flour twice. Stir in dry ingredients.

Combine wet and dry bowls and let sit for a few minutes.  It usually puffs up a little. The batter is thick so I try and spread out the pancakes with a ladle in the fry pan. ♥

Vintage Chair + Toaster

So, I found the chair of my dreams at an Estate Sale the other day. It is just perfect for my kitchen. I'm a kitchen dweller. I can barely cook (working on that) but ever since I was a child I've loved sitting in kitchens. They feel so casual and cozy. Right now, I'm sitting in this chair with my laptop on the little counter listening to Matthew Perryman Jones sipping my coffee. The sun streams through my kitchen widow every morning and this place just glows.

At the same sale, I bought a toaster! I was making toast in a skillet so when I saw this brave little toaster for $2 it was a no-brainer... even though I wasn't sure if it worked. When I flipped the toaster over the bottom read that the guarantee had expired July 1968. Well it works! And beautifully at that. Seriously-- like diner toast.

My First Place

As much as I love my family, I reached a point in my life where it was time to move. It was all in the Lords timing and He totally guided and blessed me with a sweet apartment. The transition was a really smooth one and I love it here. I live 20 min. from my mom so that's cool and I've pretty much seen her everyday since I moved out-- she is so kind to "babysit" Beulah while I'm at work. Having my own apartment means music all day long (I just discovered spotify!!!) It's a place of uninterrupted creating. It's making cookies at 10:30p.m. while watching an old chick flick. Surprisingly enough I haven't felt alone for a minute. I have so many things I want to make and do. Not to mention Beulah is great company-- no matter what I'm doing, she's right there. Here are some photos I took bright and early this morning (ignore the clock, the battery is dead. It really was bright and early ;o)

What I'm Wearing

So I got my first apartment! I'm super excited to be here. Yesterday I went on a day trip with my mom and sister. We stopped at a few Mennonite shops including a really great fabric store. The sun was shinning and we past some gorgeous green houses. I wore my favorite dress. You can find similar designs in the dress section of my shop. This is the "Retro Dress" . Unfortunately, the fabric shown here is discontinued but I have some fun new dresses in the works. I hope you had a great Friday!
